Kitchen Refurbishments from LC Design & Build

Is your Kitchen past it’s best?

Over the centuries the kitchen in our home as served as many things. It was the power house of stately homes where teams of servants would prepare and serve some of the finest food in the world, it was the centre of a working man’s cottage or 19th century terraced house and was the main room the family lived in. The fire or range would heat all of the water and cook all of the family meals. A tin bath used once a week hanging on the wall. Washing hanging on rows of pullies with a table that would serve as a preparation and dining table.

Modern kitchens have many different functions and come in many different shapes and sizes. Many people want to use the kitchen as a modern living space where food is made and eaten all together, larger spaces have sofas and TV’s and it seems like we have gone full circle and made the kitchen the centre of living once again. Friends round for a dinner party? With enough space more and more people are staying in the warmth and cosiness of the kitchen and are removing separate dining rooms altogether.

The construction of many modern kitchens now means that the room is more likely to go out of fashion before it passes it’s end of life, used with care and respect a new kitchen should last 10, 15 and even 20 years. Designs have changed and continue to do so as manufactures compete to have the “best look”, style moves as fast in kitchen design as in any other industry. New technology has been brought onto the market and has seen some great gadgets become common place and prices drop and installation becomes easier for installers. From pop up plug and USB towers to flat screen TV’s. Instant hot water taps are becoming more affordable that can deliver instant boiling water good enough for a fresh cuppa, and kettles are slowly disappearing. ( if only the ironing could too).

The use of intelligent lighting should never be underestimated within the design of a new kitchen. Fuse spur switches on every appliance is now standard regulation, I can remember the struggle to pull out the washing machine to get to the plug behind. Not anymore. Electrical regulations have changed so much over the last 25 years that a modern kitchen will have number of separate ring mains to power different items.
